STEAM SHELF

The Steam shelf encodes motifs from the urban landscape in Oakland, California, and re-contextualizes them into an almost-familiar reflection of a embodied place. Like a wind-stirred body of water, the oscillating glass surfaces muddle any clear impression and declare their own terms of use. In this way, the Steam Shelf subverts our idea of functional domestic furniture, offering a moment to consider its own identity.

The Steam Shelf was designed specifically for  Ospedale Militare di Baggio, an old nunnery and current military base in the outskirts of the Milano. It was the site of the Alcova exhibition during Milan Design Week 2022.
