Steel plate is manipulated like butter through a gesture of ‘folding’ to evoke a phenomenon in nature: a bird in flight. Inspired by the hazy illustrations in the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull and the simple pleasures of watching birds swoop through the sky, the form emphasizes the negative space just as much as the positive.The actual fabrication process is, of course, not as simple as folding. It instead entails multiple tons of hydraulic pressure to render the piece into shape. This brute force ultimately sets the table in a state of lightness and ease, despite the literal weight of the material and use of a perilous technique. The first piece of a limited edition run was designed for the Alcova 2022 exhibition during Milan Design Week. It features a smoked reflective finish on the underside, drawing attention to an otherwise overlooked aspect of furniture. Here, the user is forced to engage with an obscure, and sometimes truncated, mirror of its surroundings. The aluminum bench top features a beautiful cloudy wax finish. Draped over the bench is an off-white blanket, casted from pure natural latex. The outline of the blanket recalls the slab of a milled tree, its edge moving around sections of smaller branches, like an imprinted memory of its living state. Milk Bench incites a place for contemplation, pause and connection at home. The name hints at one of the earliest documented furniture-types, the milk stool, while also bridging the vital liquid contained in trees to that in mammals. *The first edition of Milk Bench features a one-of-a-kind latex blanket, made especially for Milan Design Week 2023. When a hand passes over the sensor on the top, red-amber atmospheric light permeates the room, personifying a radiator emitting heat. It is a similar sensory effect as an actual radiator, due to the psychological impression of the color and the familiar form of this common household staple. The light reflects and muddles with the foggy finish on the aluminum structure, providing a warmth to a usually cold-feeling material. Radiator calls attention to the forgotten folds of an interior space, where the wall meets the floor. Designing for this specific site was inspired both by a personal search for wall-hugging lighting, and by Martino Gamper's probing of corners in the early 2000s. A succession of lights graduate from violet-blue, deep midnight blue, fiery orange, and gold, diffused by articulating glass panels that are handmade by the artist to evoke water drops on a window pane. The shapes recall clouds and the slabbed sections of milled trees, providing the name of this work. Felled Sky is designed to live above a dining setting or in an expansive foyer at home. While the progression of hues is meant to guide one through the rhythm of a day, the light can also be set to a traditional warm white. Like a wind-stirred body of water, the oscillating glass surfaces muddle any clear impression and declare their own terms of use. In this way, the Steam Shelf subverts our idea of functional domestic furniture, offering a moment to consider its own identity. The Steam Shelf was designed specifically for&nbsp; Ospedale Militare di Baggio, an old nunnery and current military base in the outskirts of the Milano. It was the site of the Alcova exhibition during Milan Design Week 2022. When a hand passes over the sensor on the top, red-amber atmospheric light permeates the room, personifying a radiator emitting heat. It is a similar sensory effect as an actual radiator, due to the psychological impression of the color and the familiar form of this common household staple. The light reflects and muddles with the foggy finish on the aluminum structure, providing a warmth to a usually cold-feeling material. Radiator calls attention to the forgotten folds of an interior space, where the wall meets the floor. Designing for this specific site was inspired both by a personal search for wall-hugging lighting, and by Martino Gamper's probing of corners in the early 2000s. Spec Sheet&nbsp; ︎︎︎
